MACY'S

I gladly present  to you all..THE WORLD'S LARGEST STORE with over 1 million square feet of retail space. Located in Herald Square at 34st. & Broadway one of the most busiest streets in New York.

In 1858, this store was a small fancy dry goods store that opened on the corner of 14th St & 6th Ave. But after several failed retail ventures, Rowland Hussey Macy's determination and ingenuity paid off at the age of 36 with the launch of R.H. Macy & Co. It was successful. In 1902,  the store had outgrown its modest storefront and moved uptown to its present Herald Square location on Broadway and 34th Street, establishing an attraction for shoppers from around the world.

Currently, Macy's now serves customers through more than 800 stores in virtually every major geographic market in the United States. What a HUGE success!!!

Ah, my favorite photo from my favorite Thanksgiving/Christmas event (besides the dinner)...the Macy's Christmas parade. And I also loved that famous movie...Miracle on 34th Street (did I get that title right)?

Thanks for bringing those fond memories back, Nacha. It also ties in well to my post today.
Nacha Kama: You are right Kay...awwwwww how sweet. Thanks. Glad to put a smile on your face wink

This is fabulous. The tones are perfect for such an historical landmark and the shooting angle emphasizes the building's awesome size. Nice metaphor for the influence this company has had on American culture.
Nacha Kama: Thanks!

Lovely architectural capture of an impressive building!
You caught the right athmosphere of this pompous store-conglomerate!
Nacha Kama: M3Rci
great shot ! the framing, the soft brown tint and perspective are very good !
Nacha Kama: Thanks Maarten!wink
A fortress of buying power! Very suggestive!
I find it interesting that this old building has air conditioners jammed in the windows - seems it has no central system. Modern buildings have large plant rooms full of air con stuff.
